Every three months after learning basketball and regular training, mixed teams made up of young girls and boys, all refugees, meet in a basketball tournament organized by the Muke Company in the Bukere and Sweswe areas. .

The Muke Playground tournament calls on all refugees who love basketball to support the creation of social ties between young refugees and Ugandans and allow the sharing of common values beyond cultural differences and personal experiences.

The practice of team sport will allow them to initiate a collective spirit of mutual aid and solidarity, which encourages mutual respect. By participating in the creation of strong links, the Muke Society Playground tournament is an opportunity to promote living together and strengthen social cohesion.

Mrs. Matabishi Bumba, Founder and President of the Company says: “By creating spaces for meetings and exchanges, the organization allows the sharing of common values beyond differences. Although they come from different backgrounds, these young people have learned to play together, to communicate and to coordinate. »

This activity is of particular relevance to the joint program “Protecting and Empowering Refugee Children and Youth in Uganda”, which offers a multidimensional response to the integration and protection challenges facing refugee children and youth.

The program intervenes on three complementary axes.

This involves: Raising awareness of living together and strengthening social cohesion, building the capacities of key actors to identify and protect refugee children and young people and to ensure the protection and empowerment of refugee children and young people .

The Muke Playground tournament is therefore considered here as an opportunity to give refugee children and young people the means to become the main actors in their integration.
