A discussion group to invest in the future of refugee children and adolescents

Refugee children and adolescents bring a lot of experience and creativity, and are often extraordinarily motivated. As they are the generation of tomorrow both at the level of refugee communities and society as a whole, the success of their successful integration is crucial. If done in a way that promotes intergenerational understanding and harmony, it can also help improve the integration prospects of other family members and refugee communities.

Childhood is a time of rapid intellectual, social, emotional and physical development, and where personality and identity begin to be formed. This is the time when the foundations of adolescent and adult development are put in place. Studies have shown that the environment in which children grow up has a great influence on their mental health and well-being as adults.

Children who have strong relationships with their families and supportive ties to other adults, and whose families are harmonious and well integrated into their community, generally do better as adults. Conversely, children with weak relationships and experiencing disharmony, conflict, poor community integration, and little access to socio-economic resources, are more likely to experience problems during adolescence. The Muke Society has created a meeting and exchange group for refugee children
